The existing property is one that has been greatly altered and extended over its previous years to the extent that it no longer exhibited any of its original Georgian features and proportions, and its internal configuration and flow had become greatly constricted. Atelier-sm architects were appointed in 2013 to address the shortcomings of the internal layout and to up-date and modernise the property in general.
In October 2013, planning consent was gained to re-model the front of the house, extend and alter the rear and re-enclose the swimming pool with a new zinc roof incorporating central fully glazed roof light.
Central to the plan is to create a new entrance and circulation spine with a new staircase as its focus to the rear, rising through a double height space, which in association with a new roof light above will flood light into the heart of the house. The revised internal layout with larger family rooms now towards the rear is both efficient and generous, with large open plan kitchen / family living / dining areas opening up to the rear garden through a number of bi-folding door sections.
The re-modelling of the internal spaces and the introduction of a large areas of glazing will allow greater connectivity to the garden to the rear and significantly improve access to natural daylight in what has become a deep plan space over the years.
Works are due to commence on site April 2013.
